Background on Montreal High

Montreal High is a series by director Madeleine Sibthorpe, who is a local Montreal artist and student. The series was born out of her reaction to unique issues she felt makes Montreal different than other places she has lived.

Having lived in Vancouver, London and travelled extensively throughout Europe, and with the perception of an accomplished young artist, she has attempted to map out the reality that is Montreal.

Directed in a highly stylized manner, employing many cinematic allusions, Montreal High joins the intersecting storyline between a Dali landscape and the echo from the quiet revolution. Bilingual, this nonlinear narrative is presented on a multi faceted canvas.

Montreal high is structured around 3 distinct but interrelated storylines, in Sibthorpe’s concept, its about mixing cultures, music and growing up in the high school battleground. Although the storyline focuses on a different series of incidents, they connect and intersect in various ways. The series starts out with a party and ends with a bang.

The most exciting thing about Montreal High is the cast. Led by Jeremy Legault and Christine Auger-Zivic, two up and coming actors that plan to use this as their career launch pad. Both actors accepted a bargain rate for this series but expect to have a big payoff day once the series airs.

The music behind Montreal High is pulled out of local bands and for each episode a new sound track will be released. Montreal is known for its thriving local music scene so tracking this is a big part of the story.
